Our local MP Rachel Gilmour came into school to talk to us and share what it’s like being an MP (Member of Parliament).
She came into key stage 2 assembly to do a Q & A (question and answer) session. Questions had been gathered across key stage 2 and the school councillors asked Rachel twelve questions about what it’s like being a Member of Parliament. The school councillors also took her on a tour of the school. She also visited Class 6 and talked to us about the British value of Democracy. She talked to us about some of the rules of being an MP and some of the things you would get told off for, such as, if you talked in a discussion for too long the microphone would turn off.
Finally, Rachel said thank you for letting her come to our school and thank you to the school councillors and house captains for taking her on the tour. Before she left, she invited all the Year 6’s to go to the Houses of Parliament for a tour, she even said that if we went on a sunny day she would buy us all an ice- cream! by Jacob, Year 6
Well done to Sophia in Year 6 for coming runner-up in Rachel’s Christmas card design competition. Sophia was awarded with a certificate of achievement on signed House of Commons paper and a book token.
