Welcome to Class 6
Hello and welcome to Class 6. My name is Peter Coupe and I currently have the pleasure of teaching Year 6 at Milverton Community Primary School and Preschool. I am also the science and DT lead. I joined Milverton many years ago, having previously worked in Cleveland. I have taught Year 6 before for many years as well as other classes mainly in KS2.
In Class 6, we benefit from the many skills of Mrs. Brierley, Miss Storey, Miss. Mansfield and Miss. Davy. They will support your child's learning within the class, in groups or on an individual basis. On Tuesday afternoon’s we will also have coaches from ‘Premier Sports’ to teach PE. With Miss. Storey at school, sports fixtures are plentiful and we hope that as many children as possible from Class 6 will have the opportunity to represent the school this year.
Year 6 is an exciting time for the children at Milverton to grow and flourish. Being the oldest and more experienced pupils in school, they will have many learning opportunities and some extra-curricular responsibilities. For example, Class 6 children, having been trained in basic peer mediation, act as role models (buddies) to our younger pupils and are expected to demonstrate our core school values (Care, Aspire, Belong) and display good behaviour.
Further responsibilities across the school, a residential trip, the opportunity to perhaps become a House Captain and the chance to showcase their talents to the community at Harvest and Christmas in St. Michael’s Church and, of course, in the annual Year 6 stage production are just some of the exciting experiences they will have.
Our curriculum is built around quests which enable all children to access, engage and follow as many of their interests as possible. Wherever possible, we take learning outside, making the most of our wonderful school grounds, local area and often traveling to more distant places to give the children experiences they may not have had before.
In Year 6, we aim for all the children to further develop independence, resilience, perseverance, cooperation, compromise and problem solving and communication skills. Communication at this age is vital and we aim to keep as many avenues open for this to happen.
As always, the partnership between home and school is vital in supporting your child's learning. The current method of communication is via email, and this can be through the Class 6 email address for enquiries about aspect of your child's learning or the school office mailbox for other enquiries.
I look forward to working with you and your child once again.
