WELCOME FROM LINDA BURTON, CHAIR       

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends,

On behalf of the Governors I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to Milverton Community Primary and Pre-School.

Members of the Governing Board are valued volunteers and bring a wide range of skills, experience and expertise which enhance the leadership and management of our school. Parents and members of the local communities are often in the best position to know what a school really needs and the issues facing it. Governing Boards are the strategic decision makers and vision setters, which play a vital role in ensuring the best possible education for every child, creating robust accountability for school leaders.

Many of our Governors have detailed knowledge of Milverton school and its priorities.  At present the Governing Board comprises of ten Governors and one Associate Member plus the Head Teacher.

The Board of Governors has three core strategic functions:

  1. Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.
  2. Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils.
  3. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

Decisions are taken by the whole Governing Board which meets about six times a year, while sub-committee meetings consider the more specific areas of staffing, curriculum and finance. The work of the Governing Body is therefore handled through three committees - Finance, Personnel & Premises Committee, Education Committee and the Pay and Appraisal Committee.

Apart from the staff we are all volunteers and give up our time because we think that it takes a whole community to help our school be the best it can be.  We are proud of the many parents and local people who play an active and enthusiastic role both in the development of our children but also through the fundraising activities of the Milverton School Association.
