On Monday 19th February, Class 5 & 6 took turns to go into the hall for a planetarium dome workshop. Firstly, we went into the hall and sat on benches. We were greeted by the person running the workshop named Mario. We were advised to take our shoes off and line up in single file to go into the giant dome. Once inside, there was an observatory projected onto the dome. When we were all seated the observatory’s roof opened and the sky was filled with stars. We talked about the different constellations and about the Milky Way. We looked at the different parts of the International Space Station (I.S.S) and how far it had to be away from the Earth to not get caught in the gravitational pull (it has to be 250 miles away). We looked at how many different galaxies there were and watched a film about them and there were absolutely loads, it was amazing! Finally, we ended with a short clip about how people might live on different planets in the future and passed around a rock from a meteor that had crashed in America. We got out of the dome and thanked Mario. This cosmic, out of this world experience was spectacular and we were all happy we could do it. by Boo, Class 5
