Welcome to Class 6

Hello and welcome to Class 6. My name is Stephen Penny and I currently have the pleasure of teaching Class 6 at Milverton Community Primary School. I am also Assistant Head teacher in charge of curriculum. I joined Milverton in 2013, having previously worked as a teacher, LSA and sports coach in other schools across Somerset and Devon.

In Class 6, we benefit from the fantastic skills of Mrs Atterton, Mrs Pyne, Miss Storey, Mrs Farrow and Miss Yeats. They will support, challenge, and extend your child's learning within the class, in groups or on an individual basis. On a Thursday, the children will be taught Mrs Atterton/ Mrs Pyne during my management time and be supported by Mrs Pyne/ Mrs Farrow. The class will also be taught by Premier Sports coaches on a Thursday afternoon. On a Friday afternoon, the children will be taught by Mrs Pyne and supported by Miss Yeats and Miss Storey.

Year 6 is an exciting time for the children at Milverton; being top of the school they will have many learning opportunities and also some extra responsibilities. Class 6 children act as role models to our younger pupils and are expected to demonstrate our school values and display good behaviour. A fun-filled residential trip, the opportunity to become a House Captain and the change to showcase their talents in the school pay are just some of the exciting and fun experiences for Year 6 children!

The transition from Year 5 to 6 is smooth, as we work closely as an Upper KS2 Phase Team and take part in shared quest learning throughout the year. Our creative curriculum is built around termly quests which enable all children to access, engage and follow their interests. Wherever possible, we take learning outside, making the most of our wonderful school grounds.

In Year 6, the curriculum content and learning expectations increase and we aim for all the children to further develop their independence, growth mindset, problem solving and communication skills. We understand that the children learn best in a happy and nurturing environment, so all children to support and care for each other, demonstrating our Core Values - to care, to aspire and to belong.

As always, the partnership between home and school is vital in supporting your child's learning. The current method of communication is via email and this can be through the Class 6 email address for enquiries about aspect of your child's learning or the school office mailbox for other enquiries.

I look forward to working with you and your child, helping them flourish and grow with confidence.
