On World Book Day the school was full of characters created by Roald Dahl, David Walliams, JK Rowling, Michael Morpugo and many more authors. All the children (and staff too!) made a spectacular effort in their brilliantly conceived and produced costumes. We recognise that organising costumes can be stressful for parents, but the point of dressing-up is to make book characters come alive, and to help foster a love of reading in our children. Reading is not only an essential life skill, but opens up opportunities to enter different worlds, cultures, thoughts and feelings. To explore our children’s knowledge of their termly author, we held a house book quiz. This was adjudicated by Mrs Trunchbull and Percy the Park Keeper (his animals were no help, they were all asleep!) and the winning house was Blue Cedar. Well done! We had various Willy Wonkas in school and some Oompa Loompas, but alas, no chocolate, due to our healthy eating policy…
